Answering the question: Is it worthwhile to put solar panels on your roof?

Depending on a variety of factors - including elevation and surrounding tree cover - my house may be a better or worse candidate for installing solar panels than another located in my own city. Wouldn't it be nice to know the potential before making the investment?

According to this article on Time.com, this might be possible sooner rather than later.

Engineering firm CH2M Hill is working with the U.S. Department of Energy to map the solar potential of 25 American cities. Using Google Earth, the company aims to chart the solar potential on a neighborhood-by-neighborhood basis.

This is another great example of technology to the rescue.
